Note to the reader: this article was originally posted on our Italian blog on October 28th. The quiz targeted an Italian audience; we’ve published this translation in order to allow a wider audience to follow search marketing developments in Italy.
It seems that the summer fun is now over, but not so fast: it’s time to check, just for fun, your SEO knowledge! We’ve prepared 15 multiple choice questions on topics which appear frequently in SEO projects.
Only for a limited time
The quiz will be available for just 5 weeks, from 28 October to 1 December 2008. Once the quiz is over, the correct answers and the overall results will be published here. Participants will receive an e-mail with their results and a certificate of participation.
Five lucky participants will receive a free copy of Internet PR
Where there’s a quiz, there’s training. Marco Massarotto has lent us a hand, kindly offering 5 copies of his excellent book Internet PR.
Every Tuesday we’ll assign a copy of the book Internet PR to a person who has completed the quiz, simply for participating.
The sooner you complete the quiz, the more likely you will be one of the few to receive our little thank you.
Take the quiz today! (The quiz is now closed, this link will take you to the the quiz results)
Ceci n’est pas un concours (with apologies to René Magritte)
Answers to the SEO quiz questions can be found in articles published on this site and on the greater web, but we suggest you take the quiz without consulting other resources – the quiz is not a competition, there is no advantage to achieving a high score other than personal satisfaction.
Our goal with this quiz is to highlight the role of the Internet as an essential component of integrated marketing. Search engines in particular are an unparalleled tool for finding customers who already have a desire, a want. Keep in mind: With search engine marketing, you do not need to create the demand, just manage it well!
A common objection to investing in web marketing is that Italians are more inclined and accustomed to the use of word-of-mouth advice when searching for products or services. This may be true. But after a business lunch, Italians turn to the Internet to verify and complete information received through a word-of-mouth recommendation. Thus even traditional word-of-mouth advice needs to be complemented and reinforced by strong on-line visibility.
A reading of the book Internet PR and the optimization of your web presence for search engines will put you on track.
A few final notes
On this site we have also talked about unreliable web statistics; consequently it is worth stressing that the quiz methodology, a self-selected sample, is not strictly scientific. Please complete the quiz just once. The distribution of free books is limited to those who provide contact details, and for transparency, consent to the publication of their name.
