Search Engine Optimization

Marckini, Frederick, Search Engine Positioning (Wordware Publishing, Inc. 2001), 553 pages. While now dated, this book covers the basics very well.

Thurow, Shari, Search Engine Visibility (New Riders Publishing, 2003), 297 pages. By far the best book currently available on the topic from both a technical as well as philosophical point of view.

Sherman, Chris Google Power: Unleash the full potential of Google (McGraw-Hill/ Osborne, 2005), 434 pages. While oriented toward end users, Sherman's advanced Google tutorial gives those responsible for sites additional insight into Google's inner workings.
